REVIEW THE PLANS!

We are especially grateful to the community members and city staff who shared their experiences and guidance to develop these plans.

Since Spring 2024, both Mower County and the City of Austin have been collaborating to develop these plans jointly. The City of Austin and Mower County have completed DRAFT versions of their Comprehensive Plans.

The Comprehensive Plans are roadmaps that guide growth and quality of life for the next 20 years. The Plan sets goals and strategies that reflect local priorities for a range of key topics, such as housing, transportation, utilities, community facilities, agricultural, natural and cultural resources, economic development, intergovernmental cooperation, and land use. They are intended to be used and referenced daily as part of the county and city’s business by residents, city staff, developers, and other stakeholders.

Community members are encouraged to review the DRAFT plans and provide their input!

Next Steps

The Comprehensive Plans will remain in draft form until they are formally adopted by the Mower County Planning Commission and the City of Austin City Council. The drafts will be revised based on input from community members as well as county and city staff.

Prior to adoption, Mower County and the City of Austin will also hold a public hearing, including a 30-day public comment period, to gather final community input. Adoption of the plans is anticipated in April or May.

This project website will continue to provide updates as they become available.
